Since my last topic on Uncle Jim who joined the Merchant Navy, I have been sent a photo of his Trophy he recieved at Liverpool.  It reads:
SWORDFISH
12'4" Long  -  756 LBS
Landed by J McGrath, M.B.E. of Dungarvan

Presented by T. Draper and J. Barry
LIVERPOOL.

I am told that Ted Draper was a Policeman, by who was J Barry?  Can anyone throw any light on this please

Regards
Maggie

Hi Bangorrag,

The only information I have is that Jimmy came over from Ireland in approx 1935 and joined the Merchant Navy.  After the war he married and settled in Liverpool, but I don't know who he married or where he lived. He died in 1973, and he was Catholic.  If I am able to find anymore out I'll let you know

Regards
Maggie

Hi Maggie!
That's not an unusual name so I'll not claim particular knowledge of the man.The man I sailed with was about 50 in mid to late 1950's,engine room crew, and lived in the Sth End.
We were on the R.M.S.HUBERT for a few trip's together.I never heard of the Swordfish, but we did,one night share some very nice (intended for the passenger's)roast chicken!!
Hope you get the 'good's' on him.
               Goggy. ;) ;D

Hi Maggie.
I have found another post of your's in "curious fox.com"on this site you give a different side of the story compaired with your post in rootschat;-I quote :
    JIMMIE/JAMES MCGRATH-LIVERPOOL.
I AM LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON JAMMIE/JAMES MCGRATH.He was born in Dungarvan,Co Waterford in app1886.He joined the Merchant Navy, and served in ww2.HE WAS AWARDED THE OBE FOR SAVING APPROX 11 LIVES,WHEN HIS SHIP GOT TORPEDOED. THERE WAS A BIG WRITE UP IN THE LIVERPOOL PAPER. HE LOST HIS LEG DUE TO THE TORPEDO , The rest is the same as your Post here.
What I wont to know is are we looking for a SWORDFISH or a BRAVE MAN?? It would help and save time if you could clarify  ( If you wont to view this post Google::"liverpool nsw Dungarvon McGrath") it is about the 9th post down.
   Regards frustrated Reg.
