Thats very kind of you Barry, thanks.

If you can, readable photos of the memorial panels would be of great help, I can then correlate a panel number and the ROH names, makes it easier to provide info without having to hunt through discs.

Pete.

I have absolutely no experience of researching family history. I am however writing a short (30-page) autobiography which I hope to will be passed on to future generations of my family.

Whilst writing a paragraph on my grandfather George Henry Dixon yesterday I searched on Google for the Gas Light and Coke Company for whom he worked. I came across Biker's post on 6th June 2006 and followed the thread to the bottom of the page.

Imagine my emotions when I scrolled down to a photograph of my grandfather which biker had posted in response to a query from meles.

I never met him, and have no photographs of him, but there is absolutely no doubt that the photo is him, as the family resemblance is really strong. I know that he served in France as a NCO before being repatriated to the UK where he ended the war as a weapons instructor.

Biker, meles, and everyone involved in RootsChat thank you so very much.

Amazing!

Bob

For your paragraph on him, you can add that he worked in the Gas Sales Dept in Goswell Road.

From the 1914 annual.

I have been through the 14/15/16 books, no mention of Collins in 'men with the colours'.

Thanks Pete. He is shown on his 1907 marriage certificate as a gas fitter and when he emigrated to Australia in 1923 he is shown as a plumber so I would think that in 1914 he was installing new gas appliances bought from Goswell Road.

This forum is great

Regards

Bob

Hazel,

Can you give me a possible year?

Do you have any info that they enlisted, tells me where to look, as the books are big and not really listed in any sensible fashion.
