Ancestry 'World Tree' prefix and contacts.
« on: Saturday 03 June 06 15:44 BST (UK) »
I noticed on the world tree in Ancestry that the prefix against a couple of the names was WFT--does anybody know what this refers to?

Also i saw pictures of little books next to the silhouette of the compiler of some trees with the words--' Has sources'
can someone explain that bit please.

The Copperwheat trees i was looking at had on 2 of them 'unknown contact'.
presumably then, that brings me to a dead end as far as getting in touch ?

Sorry Poli, I don't know what the WFT means but the has sources means that if you click on the individual name and scroll to the bottom of the infornmation on that individual it will say 'sources' and them either IGI, 1881 census,  etc. giving you  the source of the information.

Hope that makes sense.

Could "WFT" just be "World Family Tree" ???

Thanks suey, i shall investigate.

casalguidi -  Sounds quite obvious now that you've suggested it!!

Is this tree the same one as Ancestry World Tree or another one elsewhere?

Hi Polidor

I'm not certain but possibly "World Family Tree" is the ancestry database now known as "One World Tree" that requires a separate or upgraded subscription to view :-\

Well i 'googled' World Family Tree and ended back on the Ancestry site so the only difference i could find is the fact that you can have a U'K annual subscription as i have, or, a World annual subscription which apparently opens up a few more doors. The Tree, however is available on the U'K sub and has U.S names on it so  the World Wide sub would help if you have relatives scattered round the globe i suppose.  Poli.

You can find most of the trees submitted to Ancestry for free on RootsWeb.  If the submitter clicked on the "One World Tree" option then you can find the information on RootsWeb (which is sponsored by Ancestry).
It is easier to search RootsWeb and you can produce several different reports from the trees.

World Family Tree was, at one time, completely seperate having been started by the publishers of "Family Tree Maker" software. However Ancestry now own that company and presumably have amalgamated the databases.
