Thanks for the info Mike, much appreciated.

Not sure how I'll pursue my research next. Looking forward Thomas Curry and family moved to Lincoln / Sleaford for the 1841 census but were back in Leicester in 1851, however, Thomas had died in January 1851 in Lincoln.

I think there are some inconsistencies with the births of their children which I need to check as there seems to be some 'toing and froing' between Leicester and Lincoln.

Can't find George Currey or Sarah on 1841 census or beyond.

Think I'll stuggle to figure out where Thomas was born he was a stonemason so he learnt his trade somehow, possibly from his father...

Hye I'm not sure I'm in the right place but I'm trying to discover more about my Shread family ancestors who were a military family hailing from Leicester and Hinckley.
They worked in the 1890's in alocal dye works. Joseph Shread b1864 lived at Lower green street and William Shread his brother born 1860 lived at what I decipher as 14 Savvy Gate Court.
Both worked as dyers. But these places no longer exist or do they? Anyone know anything to help?

Steve - that would be Sanvey Gate, which was covered in the extensive slum clearances in the 20th century.

If I were you I'd start a new thread with your query.What are you actually wanting to find- the streets or the people? If the people, who are you looking for and when? Give us all the info you've got and someone will find something to help! But try a new thread!

Go to "Forum" at the top of this page (inbetween "home" and "help" in the horizontal list!)

Scroll down the list of fora until you come to England- General; click on Leicestershire (in the small print under the forum heading)

click on "new topic" (on the right hand side of the screen as you scroll slowly down)

If anyone can help I would be grateful. I am looking for Clements/Clemence family information from St. Margaret's Leicestershire.
I have the record of a 3rd Great Grandfather John Clements baptised at St Margaret's, Leicester 8th Aug 1770. His father is George Clemence and his mother Mary.
I have been unable to find any record of George Clemence or his wife Mary.
