1851 look up TATE in the Soho.Bloomsbury area.
« on: Friday 22 October 04 20:36 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find JOSEPH ( a poulterer from Leeds) & ELIZA TATE in the 1851 census.
They would be aged abt 20/21 with a son named THOMAS MURCUTT WILLIAM TATE aged abt 1.
When they were married in 1849 they were living in MOOR St & WILD Ct respectively.
When a second son was born in 1854 they were living at 6,Rose street ,Soho.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Colin.

Hi Colin

Here they are;

1851 Census.

HO107/1508 Folio 295

7 Wild Court, St Giles in the Fields.

MAURETTE Thomas, Head, Mar, Boot Maker, British Subject
MAURETTE Elizabeth, Wife, 54, British Subject
MAURETTE Mary Ann, 31, Unm, Straw Bonnet Maker, British Subject
MAURETTE Ann, Dau, 23, Unm, Flower Maker, British Subject
MAURETTE Esther, Dau, 16, British Subject
TATE Joseph, Lodger, Mar, 22, Poulterer, British Subject
TATE Eliza, Lodger, 29, British Subject
TATE Thomas MW, son, 8 months, British Subject.

I have no idea why the enumerator wrote down "British Subject" for everyone, he doesn't appear to have done so elsewhere in the street, and one wonders if Mr MAURETTE was making some sort of point!!

Census information is Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Thanks very much Rick, I had half a hope they were staying with relatives which I could link to Leeds, but it was not to be.

Many thanks for your help.
