Hullo All,
Anyone interested in the Maritime history and could possibly access information for us here in Aus .
My husbands great great grandfather was Nicholas Wilfred Roskell in 1864 he was  captain of the P.O. ship Vectis (paddle) . He died ;3-9-1877 Penang Malaysia and headstone states he was a Commodore in the P.O. The Census records 1861 for All Saints Parish, Southampton have him registered as Commodore for P.O .
if anyone has access to the P.O. records and they have the time, please could you see if there is any more information on our ancestor .  Thank you for any help given it will be gratefuly received  :).

Unless anyone else has a better idea of where and if the company records of P & O have survived and where they might be, I would make an enquiry of Southampton Archives and see if they know anything about them.

P&O have a very good website which gives a brief history of the company (one of the co-founders married my 5x removed first cousin):

http://portal.pohub.com/portal/page?_pageid=71,212168&_dad=pogprtl&_schema=POGPRTL

There is a "Contact us" link at the top which includes a History enquiry and General enquiry form - don't know if they would be sent to separate places, but you could submit an enquiry via the link about any archives they might have.

Good luck!

Nell
