Hi everyone,

I'm back after more hunting around!  I don't seem to be as good as you are at finding spouses though.  How do you manage to do it so quickly?

I've got a marriage reference for George William Hindhaugh (the one mentioned in my very first post but ruled out as then I thought his wife was Ellen which the GRO said wasn't, and could be a hopeful candidate with a son William?)  he was married Jan - Mar 1903 Gateshead, Durham, Tyne & Wear Vol. 10a Pg 613

I've tried to find his wife, but I'm still fairly new to this and haven't been able to.  I know I could get the GRO to check but it gets costly especially when they turn out to be wrong  :(

Any help or advice will be appreciated, thank you. leaf

Well, I can only tell you the 2 possible spouses:
Jane Hindmarsh or Mary McWilliams

Thank you Tanja, again I'm really impressed with your speed.

So that leaves John George and Mary Ann as the only Hindhaugh/Sharkey marriage.  I think the way forward now would eb to get John George's death certificate and see if it was registered by Chrissie.

Unless anyone has a better idea?

Thank you.  leaf

Nothing to be impressed with, really  ;D

The only thing to do is search FreeBMD and click on the page number  ;)

I think it's a good idea to get the death cert if finances allow.

A second possibility would be to contact the register office for the Sharkey/Hindhaugh marriage. If you are positive that Mary Ellen is the one born Low Fell, then you could ask them to check (not sure how helpful they are?) whether her father is William on the marriage cert. (Wouldn't prove much if it is, but would disprove the marriage if it isn't).

Ask nicely on the Durham board for a parish register lookup? As you know the year, it shouldn't be too difficult....

Hi All,

After much doubt checking and rechecking and ordering of certificates the Mary Ann Sharkey John George Hindhaugh marriage was the correct one! It must have been misrecorded as she was a Mary Ellen known as Ellen as her mothers name was also Mary.

Thank you also Tati for finding the family in 1891, I haven't got any census subscriptions at the moment, hopefully I'll get one as a Christmas present so I'll look that reference up then.

Thank you all so much for your help,
