PASSENGER LISTS
« on: Wednesday 31 May 06 15:13 BST (UK) »
Could someone please help

I am trying to find out when and why someone travelled to austalia. The information i have is as follows:

Charles Spencer b approx 1871 travelled to Australia with 2 small sons, henry b approx 1889 and Charles b approx 1893 i believe sometime in the 1890's.

Charles was married marie ? but she was believed to have died before they left. Not sure of date, any help appreciated.

Also any information on the marriage of Charles and marie would be appreciated.

The sons were born in London and one address i have for them was Holloway, North London.

I am not sure of marie's maiden name but its possibly Campbell and its thought there was a Scottish connection.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Kelly

Hello, Kelly,

This is all a bit of a long shot but working on premise that Holloway Rd is in the region of Islington I have found the following>

Birth
Charles Reuben Spencer
June ¼  1871  Islington  1b  309

Henry Charles Spencer
Sept. ¼ 1887  Islington  1b 356    OR
John Henry
Dec ¼  1889  Islington  1b  296

Death
Marrie Grey Spencer ( as entered)
age 34
June ¼  1898  Islington  1b  323

I have not yet had time to trawl for a marriage for Charles & Marie, just thought I would let you have these to think about.  Also censuses need to be looked at.

Hope this helps & is not too confusing.

Meliora

Hi Kelly

Here are two sites to order certificates

www.bmd-certificates.co.uk

www.gro.gov.uk

The entry looks like a strong possibility for their marriage and you should get their fathers names, place and date of marriage.  There isn't a great deal of information on the English certificates.

Have you tried to find them in the 1881 census, it is free to search on www.familysearch.org

Hi Meliora,

Thank you for that last birth - i think that one could well be correct, however, unfortunately the birth of Charles Reuben Spencer that you gave is not the correct one as i have just found his death within 3 months of birth.

let me know if you find anymore

Kelly
