williamsons of chester
« on: Wednesday 31 May 06 10:03 BST (UK) »
I've traced my Williamson ancestors back to Chester where they were there from 1848 to 1902. civil registration has taken me back to the marriage of john Williamson and Mary hughes in the 1840s. His father was called JosephI've heard rumours of John being baptised in 1822 at St John's Chester. can anyone confirm this or give me further leads. many thanks in anticipation.

Hi

If you have his fathers name please can you list it, it would not be possible to confirm any John Williamson as being "right" without a name to link him to.

I have searched the 1841 census and find only one John Williamson indexed of the right age and in Chester, he is in the Chester City Goal and a labourer aged 19.

The Chester RO will do a search for you in the parish registers, email them at the address in the link below.

not much help sorry.

joseph was the father's name. i've been put off asking the record office as they seem to charge quite high fees!

Hi

If you give the records office the details inluding St Johns 1822 they will normally search a couple of years either side, without chargeing.
Unless they have tightened up a bit in the last year or so.
