Jockeys
« on: Tuesday 30 May 06 13:02 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might find information about Jockeys. The Jockey Club have nothing before 1900.

I am also looking for information on the race course in Lyon, France as I am trying to find more information about William Lashmar who died there in June 1890.

William had been a jockey riding for Matthew Dawson & Champion Fred Archer in Newmarket but after Archers death seems to have moved to Paris.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks but sadly the records don't seem to go back far enough - will keep trying!

Can you get access to Gales Digital Newspapers (English Collection 1600 - 1900)? I just did a very brief search there for "lashmar AND jockey", and got a few results, though his(?) death in Lyons in July 1890, as a result of a race fall, is reported as Thomas Lashmar.

Les

PS: Lashmar competed for the Prix du Grand Camp, Lyons. The horse was "Naaman", which kicked him in the head, and he did not recover.
