Father: John McDonald, bd March 25, 1869, Crook of Avis, Scotland.

Can you give the registration Area where John was born please as I have never heard of Crook of Avis (old name possibly)?

Regards,

Annie

Hi Rocky1

There is an entry in the Coatbridge census in 1911 for an appropriately aged John McDONALD and Mary.

But that in the context that I can't see a 1902 marriage for John MCDONALD and Mary POLLOCK, except. of course, that she was Mary Pollok MILLER which 1902 marriage in Coatbridge does indeed exist ...............

Imber is right.

The IGI lists the birth of John McDonald, parents William McDonald and Isabella Fraser, in Alves on 25 March 1869.

Alves is pronounced 'AH-viss'.

Crook of Alves is the name of the village in the parish of Alves. The pub was called the Crook Inn but it was changed to Crooked Inn a decade or two ago.

Hello kirkmichael,
This is the family I have been researching.  John MCDonald was a police constable in Coatbridge.  I believe he was attached to the Coatbridge St. Woodside St. police station.
My research so far found NO living biological children from this marriage.

Does the Coatbridge 1911 Census show a child named John Brown McDonald MILLER (bd Oct. 1905) living with them at Coatbridge?
John Brown McDonald Miller was in fact the illigitimate child of Mary Pollock MILLER's sister Elizabeth Allan Miller, who showed an address at 23 Ashton Lane Glasgow.
This couple later moved to Distillery Cottages, GARNKIRK, (Cadder District).  Is there any way to tell when they moved from Coatbridge?

Hi Rocky

The 1911 census record that I found doesn't appear to connect.
