Hi Rena,
I know I'm poaching on Dave's territory but today I decided to venture along to Sighthill.
There is no Section Map anywhere that I could find so it was just a case of wandering about. Not that I'm complaining, I had a lovely afternoon.
I came across, quite by accident, a ratherer impressive Crum stone. Whether it's any of your ancestors . . . . . .
The MI reads:
"Erected by John Crum, Stationer, Glasgow in memory of his beloved wife Jane Mackenzie
Born 23rd April 1823, died 2nd July 1867
Also of their children
Donald Mackenzie born 9th March 1858?, died 6th September 1893?
Allan Mackenzie born 8th April 1866, died 1st August 1878
The above John Crum, born 12th May 1817, died 28th September 1887
Also his son John Crum born 29th September 1851, died 8th May 1879 at Tarkastadt, South Africa
Also his daughters
Annie Mackenzie born 28th May 1856, died 22nd April 1906
Jane Mackenzie born 1st May 1859, died 24th November 1910
Jessie Mackenzie born 8th February 1861, died 26th December 1912
Agnes Crum his mother born 23rd April 1792, died 2nd October 1871
Thomas Crum his brother born 28th September 1818, died 25th September 1871
His eldest daughter Lillias Crum born 15th June 1854, died 10th February 1922"
If the above lot aren't yours, it's a remarkable co-incidence that both your John and his daughter Lillias's age and date of death match so closely with the people listed on the stone.
Wouldn't life be wonderful if everybody's gravestone had as much information on an entire family, covering three generations, as this one
If you want copies of the photos - PM me with your personal e-mail address.
