Incase anyone happens upon this thread, i was out and about photographing headstones at Purewa this week and one of those graves was Charles Croxton MARRINER who is mentioned in this post. 

Link to the photo is http://www.flickr.com/photos/porkynz/?saved=1 Probably no relation at all to your MARRINER's allycat but it may help to rule out definitely as well.

I have just been googling Charlie Marriner and I have come across this website, he is my Grandfather.  I don't have alot of details about him but like to hear any you have  :)
