thanks for the reply, i think tavistock is mis transcribed as well, as easily done when names are similar.
 really hoping someone out there can find johns birth as not having much luck myself.

As he was born C1806 it is a Parish Register job, which I don't have access to.
Have you contacted Devon Family History and www. devonhistorysociety.org
They may have some ideas
