Here goes!  t's a long time since I uploaded a picture.  Hope I can remember.  They are out of the book 'Maidenhead Voices' which Anyas recommended ages ago.

The first is the rather depressing one.  Imagine it pouring with rain and wet washing hanging everywhere in the house!

The second is 'The Bethel Mission Sunday School'  (Holmanleaze) outing taken in the early 30's. The boy in the front with the cap is Bernard O Howard

And then the last GC 'A party held at Lower Garden Cottages' to celebrate the end of the war in 1945.

The first one .. the fronts over looked the back gardens of the next row of houses. They have the wash hanging in the garden.  Top left hand side.

I shall ask grandad if he knows any of those faces. (Outing)

This one I have and I think it is Reform Road too.... OH's Auntie is the girl on the right.

Grandad needs to look at this one as well.

Hi Lesanne and any old Maidonians

Price 12.99 but I got mine for about half that through Amazon.

Just flicking through it some memories came flooding back.  There is a short description of a 5 year old contracting polio in 1948.  This happened to me and somehow I missed this paragraph when I first read the book.  I lived in College Glen then and remember the Dr. coming (Dr Frank, a great, caring Dr.) and the ambulance came and took me to the old Isolation Hospital opposite the old St Marks.  I remember the ambulance and the big, thick, red blankets and not being allowed any visitors.  I could only see my Mum and Dad through the window and anything they brought in for me had to be sterilized!  I could not remember when this happened and there in the book it says 'Polio Epidemic' and it was in 1948 when I was 6.   Amazing how you can find things!  I would never have known when this happened and I did not suffer any after effects!

End of memory Lane!  Just counting my blessings.

Think I'm a bit older than you but we had Bill Haley and the Comets, parties at Greenfields, Ray Park something, the equivalent of BBQ's in the middle of the thicket ( I did a paper round at the time and was up early next morning ... went to where the previous nights 'do' was and collected all the coppers that had fallen out of the boys pockets). 

Then there was El Toucan, Bridge Street and the Coffee Cantata in Queen's Street (always the places to be on Saturdays to find somewhere to go Saturday night!), bottle parties "Merrydown Cider" upstairs in the Greyhound, King Street.  The Royal Adelaide in Windsor for Trad jazz and the EX servicemens club in Windsor, again Trad Jazz.  Then there were dances at the Rowing Club.  And the youth club at St Lukes Church

Getting very nostalgic - I had a great teenage period  in Maidenhead.  No-one had a car we used to cycle everywhere, and somehow my Mum didn't know half!  Just as my kids have told me things I didn't know they got up to!.
