The Joan Beare mentioned was my father's sister, she died young so I never knew her. She, my father and Gerald their brother were all born at Holyport and lived in a house called 'The Den', now part of the M$

Can anyone remember the name of the boys school near Grenfell Road? My father went there as did Michael Carreras [[of Bray studios horror films fame]. I think they wore grey uniforms and the name began with 'W' I think. My mother went to the old County Gramar School on High Town Road I think. I have a school photo from 1930s with 100+ girls so hard to pick my mother out

Winbury was in High Town Road wasn't it? Later moved to Braywick but closed in 2011.

Are you thinking of Ellington perhaps? That was pretty close to Furze Platt.
