Kindred or Kendred
« on: Wednesday 24 May 06 18:22 BST (UK) »
Is anyone out there researching this name? I have found it appearing as a middle name in my ALLEN family in Marylebone, London and I am assuming that this is a maiden name somewhere down the line.
Unfortunately it seems to have joined the family pre 1837 and being unable to get the the records office to even know where to begin I am looking in reverse, that is to see if anyone is researching the name and seeing if they know of a branch in their tree when they married into the Allen line.

Confused? So am I. I dont know that the line comes from London hence posting it here rather than the London board

Many thanks

Helle, Anna,

This may help

Try this website, it is the complimentary one to the IGI where you can search by church & then by surname, not just the surname like the IGI.   There is a middle name index which will show all the entries for any middle name.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.co.uk/~hughwallis.

Scroll down the main page till you come to the Middlle name Index>
choose county>
choose initial for name>
scroll down till you find the name> click

There are 7 baptisms shown for Kindred & 2 marriages showing husband & wife in the London list.

If you can spend a bit of time it can be worthwhile looking at other counties just to check the name, you never  know where it could have originated.

Good hunting.

Hi Anna,

William Kindred Allen is my 4xgt grandfather, a plasterer  in Marylebone. I have been working on the same assumption as yourself but have so far found no previous Allen-Kindred link.

There are loads of Allen researchers on GenesReunited - I havent looked at this line for ages (probably since I posted tbh) but I am sure that there is someone who has found the line and has the family going a lot further back.
If you want details, pm me

Best wishes

Hi,

My mother's maiden name is Kindred and I have been researching this name for many years. My grandfather Gerald Kindred ended up in London about 1920. He grew up in Essex County on the border of Suffolk County. His Kindred ancestors lived in Suffolk County for several hundred years. There are a lot of Kindreds in Suffolk and a lot of good records available. So far, I haven't run across any Allens, but this may be where your Allens or Kindreds came from. There are many good gen websites for Suffolk County. Try GENUKI Suffolk, Eng. Hope this is helpful to you.

Thanks, Sandy. I had noted the concentration of Kindred in Suffolk ( also in Northumberland) but so far no links.

I'll keep looking!

Hi jez44,

After I made that post I went to the Hugh Wallis link. (did not work, by the way). Here's one that will work.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm

I went to Suffolk County looking for my Kindreds with little success, but did notice a lot of Allens in Suffolk County on this website. I thought of you when I saw it. So far, I have no Allens, myself.

Happy Hunting!
