Palace Theatre
« on: Wednesday 24 May 06 07:49 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with any info please.  I have an old family autograph book, it contains the autographs of a few "acts" that played at the Palace Theatre in Leicester around 1926/1927.
Can anyone tell me anything about the theatre or these "acts" please :

Robert Macachlan
Russell & West  "Long & Short"
The Flying Reos
Billy O'Connor
Whit (?) Cunliffe
Elsie Bowers & Billy Rutherford
Leslie Stuart

Look forward to hearing from you

Foz, I hope someone can help but my advice is to post the same query on the occupations board.  After all, their occupations were entertainers.

Best wishes and good luck

It might be worthwhile taking a look at some of the links noted on the following page:

Hi

Im trying to help my mother trace her family history.
My great grandfather Frederick Warren Born 1903 on Churchgate Leicester.
In his teenage years possibly 13 -15 he was a Charlie Chaplain impersonator at the Palace Theatre for around 6 weeks until his father found out and banned him from working in the theatre.
We would love to know more if anyone has any information - maybe you ave an old flyer or programme with any details on. Perhaps he was a support  act for someone famous!
We would really appreciate if anyone has any information of any use whether it be on my great grandfather or the palace theatre from around 1916 - 1920.
Many thanks

Foz -

I'm pretty sure your second entry will be Revnell & West.

They were Ethel Revnell and Gracie West, a comedy double-act of the 1930s and 40s, billed as "The Long and Short of It".  (Revnell was tall, while West was much shorter).

There was a strip supposedly featuring their antics in the old kids' comic "Radio Fun".
Ballingall, Donaldson, Fulton, Gillespie, Ramsay, Walker - in Fife.
