1861 Census Hull - GRUNWALD family
« on: Thursday 21 October 04 08:57 BST (UK) »
I would very much appreciate a look-up for this family - I now have details from the 1851 census that Saul Grunwald was in Hull and was aged 28 - and am seeking information as to where he was and what he was doing in 1861.  In the census of 1871 he was listed as born in Prussia, occupation jeweller, wife Esther.

Thank you.

Hi Sandie

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Hi Sandie,

I have looked on 1861 census and no Grunwald and only 3 persons with the forename Saul.

Wobbly - Thank you very much for that.  I have now discovered that the Grunwalds must at some time have moved to Leeds for they have been discovered at 70 Templar Street, Leeds on the 1861 Census.

I was completely on the wrong track as I had assumed that, as their children were born in Hull and they (the parents) died in Hull, they lived their all their lives.  In the 1871 Census they were visiting friends in Sheffield so I am not sure where they were living then.

Now I need to discover their whereabouts in 1881 - Saul died in 1890 in Hull and his wife Esther died there 9 years later.

Thanks again for the help.

Wobbly - Thank you SO much for this help which has now unleased a further "rich vein" of information - at last I have a town of birth rather than Prussia as in former censuses.

Yes these are indeed the ones I was looking for - the Christian names and ages tally.  Not only that when I went onto the LDS site to print out the census entry I just "popped next door" and found their elder daughter and family ... excellent.

Many thanks again.
