I don't think Hellingly was ever used as a sanitorium though.  Although I did have physiotherapy up there in the 1980s.

Hi,
I come from Eastbourne(thoughnow live in Essex),you have probably found out now about the sanitarium,but here goes,there is a hospital in Eastbourne near the downs called All Saints,it was closed about five years ago.My Mother worked there for twenty years as a nurse,it has its own church,was run by nuns and used to be a TB hospital.

I had a look on web and found that the council is redeveloping site what would have happened to all the old records has anyone got any ideas? Im talking about 1910 to 1925. Thanks

Hi,
Glad i was of some help,i had heard they were developing the site,aparently,the only part they cant touch is the church,as it is a grade two listed building.Sorry,i cant help with the records,not sure where they would be held or if you could access them.

I had an (non-direct) ancestor in a hospital in St Leonard's call
Eversfield Hospital, I think it was proeviously called Friedenfels



I think early treatment consisted mainly opf fresh air!
