Coroners Report/Newspaper Reports?
« on: Saturday 20 May 06 15:57 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks.

Can someone give me some guidance please on how I might be able to track down any newspaper reports or coroners reports relating to a suicide in 1900 in Chelmsford Essex.

It would appear that my G-Grandfather Frederick Smith, age 36, committed suicide by throwing himself into the river Chelmer at Springfield. According to the death certificate I have just received, he was discovered on 15th June 1900.

If anyone knows of any newpapers which might have been in circulation at that time and where there back issues might be held I guess that would help.

Thanks.

Ken

My GG Grandfather committed suicide in 1906.  We went to Bradford central library and found the microfiches (lol, I just put "microfishes") for the Yorkshire Post.  We already had his death so we knew the right time.  There was an article about the incident.  It was also fun going through the newspaper as there were several things saying they had a cure for piles or a cure for a cold :D

Try looking at either the local newspaper where he was, or you may also find him in a bigger newspaper, like I did.
