Strancally Castle& it's owners
« on: Friday 19 May 06 18:00 BST (UK) »
I'm interested to find out more about the landowners of Strancally Castle, Waterford.

I know John Keily J.P. had it built. He had a wife Margaret (nee Bagwell?) John possibly born 1775 in Waterford. Married 1800. Margaret died 1839 listed in Nenagh Guardian News Index 1 Co. Tipperary.

John Keily possible shot (or this was a joke in the paper) 27 Oct 1847 The Cork Examiner. Listed as in Strancally Castle in 1837.

I'm more interested in Percy George Whitelock Lloyd the next owner of Strancally Castle around 1870's as owned 1,106acers.

George Whitelock Lloyd (possibly his father) had 1,034 acers.
George Whitleock Lloyd S.P. married Lady Ann Margaret Bulter in Feb. 1861.

Lady Bulter was born 22 Oct. 1829 died 15 May 1901 or 1961. She is listed in Berke's Pedigreess of Landed Gentry. She was a descendant of Mary Tudor, Princess of England.

I need the family tree of Whitelock Lloyd's to prove a link to my family tree.
House - Brockenhurst, Rockbourne, Newbury, Thatcham 1500-1850's.
O'Toole - Dublin and Newcastles upon Tyne.

Thankyou for that Vasaborg. I know the family lived at Strancally Castle, Waterford. So for him to be buried at Lismore Cathederal.

William has a book printed about his art work which I have now seen.

Thanks for this piece of info.

Hi Toby,
Yes I saw the newspaper article about Keily being shot. Strancally Castle is still at present being lived in and a private house.
I know now that some of my Whitelocke family are buried there.

I think I found the gates via google photos. I also found the website that shows them too.

I was not really interested in Keily family - just that they were in Strancally Castle before the Whitelocke Lloyds.
My ancestor sold the castle against his grandfathers wishes, sue to running costs. The new owners have been doing their best to restore the castle. They have added a great looking new fire surround, I also spotted that online.
