The placename seems to be very clearly Tarry, which is just to the north of Eglingham.

Hiya,
I think the place reads Tarry. There was a Tarry colliery in Eglingham, so that would tie in with the mining occupation.
Have a look at this website

Scroll down to Eglingham, click on that name and it will take you to a history of Eglingham. I think it mentions Tarry in the write up. I think you can click on the name 'Tarry', and then it should take you to a page with an option to view a map. If you click that link it will open another window with the map. You should be able to then choose to view a historical version of that map, and you get a choice of year ranges.

(what with all the Eslington, Edlingham and Eglingham I'm getting a headache!)

* definitely looks like Margt on census although she is right age for Mary?  I may be wrong (quite usually am) but I think I read somewhere that the name Mary Margaret was considered a different name to Mary.........

I think I need to find them in 1861 if I can.

Helen, I think you're on the right track as the family lore suggests Mary came from Ireland - she didn't obviously but the family would appear to have done so.

Just received this marriage certificate today and I'm a bit puzzled as to why the Bride's father's details are blank - any ideas? I don't know who he was, I was hoping the certificate would give me a clue!

Is John Douglas' father William? (bit difficult to read)
What is the word before Eglingham for John's place of residence?

No-one seems to have answered your first question. The usual reason why the father's  part is left blank is because the person was illegitimate.
