Hi Gadget,

Would love to see picture of your Tom, I found this on the internet....

Scottish-born Thomas Burgess named the community of Bala after the Bala Lake District in Wales. He arrived in 1868 and set up a sawmill on the Mill Stream. In time he also opened a general store, bakeshop, blacksmith shop and supply boat service and post office.

In 1917 the Burgess family helped establish a hydroelectric facility on the site of Thomas’s original sawmill. This generating station supplied power for much of the Medora and Wood Townships. Nala officially became a town in 1914. Dr. A.M. Burgess, a son of Bala’s founder Thomas Burgess, was the first Mayor in Bala.

Bala is now famous for the bar/concert's that it has in the summertime.  Great times  :)

That's him - my first cousin 4 times removed Karen  :D To think that when I was over there in the late 60s, I knew nothing about all this  :(

I hope to put his photo on my website in the next couple of days. There's masses of stuff on this family and it will take me ages to write it all up. They were an awkward bunch - minds of their own they had  ::) ::) ::)  :P :P :P

Thanks you so much for popping in last night. It was really appreciated. Maybe we could have a Canadian session in there some time  :)

Gadget
PS - OK then here's a little one of him as the postman in, I think,  1894  :)

Always good to have new folks coming in. Don't worry if it all goes bit fast. I found it fast when I started and my typing isn't the best.

lots of nice folks in there who can help with your research.

Come and join us we'd love to see you all

Ann
