Hiya Folks,
That is a good point raised by KCMomma.
I hate to be the one to put a dampener on the enthusiasm here but what precisely are we attempting to do?
I signed a petition in my local Post Office the other day. It is being conducted on a National basis in an effort to allow pensioners to continue being allowed to draw their pensions from the Post Office instead of a bank which is what the Government would like to happen. Petitions, as far as I know, require a genuine name and address so that the names of those signing can be verified if necessary.
Here at Rootschat on the Limerick Ancestry Lobby we appear to have what we would call an email petition. You may do a Google, as I did, and you will find that there are several sites like this one
http://www.hoax-slayer.com/petition-value.html I looked at the petition site on this thread and on the one to ABC Television I did not notice a name and address. I feel that a petition being presented to a local council would require the same standards as a petition being presented to a Government of a country. That means the petition requires a name and address for verification otherwise we are weakening our Lobbying position.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/actionnetwork/A4288926#4If I may I would like to make a suggestion. Each member who would like to see Limerick Ancestry reopen should print one or more petition forms so that a couple of dozen signatures can be obtained. They should then take the forms to their local library, Family History Centre etc and if they have the time stay for a while and ask people to sign the form. If they do not have the time the librarian or whoever is in charge of the place may permit them to leave a few forms for a few days.
Best Wishes, Christopher
