Hi Michael:

Thank you for your time and efforts; it is greatly appreciated.  Unfortunately, that Jane is not my ancestor.  We have several documents stating Jane's birth was in 1822.  She married John Ovens while living in New Jersey...they had a "fancy goods" establishment in Toronto, Canada...she died in her 105th year in Toronto.  I do have quite a bit about Jane and her life in Toronto, as well as census information when she was living in Jersey City, New Jersey.

According to a book that was printed around the early 1900's, Jane supposedly was born in Aughrim.  According to Jane's obituary notice, she was born in Tuam, Ireland.  I would dearly love to either prove her birth in Aughrim, or disprove it.

Thank you again for your interest.  Lisa

Hi Michael:

I will see if I can find it online (I am away from home right now, and do not have access to the photocopied page).

Started a thread for my Wakefields (so I don't hijack simply4smiles' thread).  ;)

Hi Michael:

I'm now over on the thread referenced above.  You can either go to it by highlighing and selecting it, or by going to the top of the page and selecting "Galway" and then selecting my thread.

hi all
know of one of the wakefields that you are looking for in aughrim, and the family still have a farm in aughrim , dont know if they are decedents of your David, will be speaking to her within the next 2 weeks can pass on the message
'

I would be interested in visiting this family when we go to Ireland in the end of August.  At least to take a picture of the farm.  Do you think that they would mind?

Thank you for asking teh family. I do not want to bother them I would just love to find the farm and maybe take a picture of the farm. It would be nice to take a picture of the family but I do not want to be too pushy.  What ever they are comfortable with.

My maiden name is Wakefiled.  I am a direct decendent of David Wakefield and Mary Wade.  David and Mary settled in Pennsylvania.  I do not have my research with me as I am at work right now but I know that David and Mary moved to Brush Creek, PA.  My line of Wakefields moved into McKeesport and then to Pittsburgh, PA.  My father was Charles Sherwood Wakefield, Son of Homer Jeremiah Wakefield.  His father was David Wakefield. (he is the first of my line listed in the Wakefiled book, or last depending which direction you are going!)  I believe that his father was Jeremiah.   I can not go back further without my research but I do know that we are direct from David & Mary Wade.

Thank you again for handling this.  I do not know if I will ever get back to Ireland after this trip. It would really mean so much to see the family farm!

I have some information on David Wakefield.  Emigrated to America in 1768.  Settled in Indiana County, PA.  He married Mary Jane Wade, daughter of a wealthy land proprietor, and neighbor of the Wakefield family in Ireland.  His daughter, Joanna, married Captain William Carroll.  He participated in the Revolutionary war.  I have the history of the Carroll's of Pennsylvania from Captain William until now.  I am going to Ireland in April and would love to find the Wakefield estate on the road between Aughrim and Bellinasloe.  I would also love to find out where William Carroll was from.
