Velvet mills and the Armitage family

Hi all

Does anyone know if there was a velvet mill in Yorkshire in the late 1700s or earlier owned by the Armitage family?  I am afraid that I have no idea where in Yorkshire this mill might be but would be grateful for any help.

The Armitege family are deep rooted into Almondbury
area near Huddersfield. Cant say I have heard of the
velvet mill but have a look on the website Huddersfield
One, lots of info on there. My forebears the Norths
are linked with Love Armitage as my g grdmother x

My Armitage ancestors all originated and lived in Kirkburton, near Huddersfield.  Most of them were fancy woollen weavers.  Can't say I have heard of the velvet mills either. 

Sandra you say your forebears are the Norths being linked to the Armitages, I have Norths in my family, they are connected to the Howes who are also connected to the Armitages.  Don't have much info on my Norths though.

James and Joseph had another brother Abraham his daughter Lucy married an Arthur Armitage. This Armitage family were around the Kirkheaton area of Yorkshire.

This is a very old thread but might be worth a post to see if there's any life left in it.

My 6gGrandparents were John North and Love Armitage so there is at least one North/Armitage connection. They were married in 1724(April 2nd Huddersfield St Peter) There seems to be some variation in what is regarded as a true genealogy for the Armitages. Does anybody have a definitive version? I don't know anything about the Norths.

The Armitages or Armytages were a distinguished family and several were High Sheriffs of Yorkshire at various times and their roots are stated as being connected to the Houses of Stewart/Stuart, Plantagenet and Saxe-Coburg Gotha. I am particularly interested in the Stewart line at the moment because I have Stewarts in my lineage and DNA consistently links me with people who have demonstrable royal Stewart ancestry. Any info on the connection between Armytage and Stewart would be appreciated.

There is / was a velvet mills ( and shop, because I recall buying a lovely length of green devore [can't "do" accents on here] velvet in the late 60s / early 70s) near Denholme near Keighley in West Yorkshire. I've a feeling it may even have been called "Denholme Velvet" - but I've also a feeling that the last couple of times I've been near there, clearance and/or new building was taking place on the site. Local trade directories may help?

I know of the name love armitage  I belive she is tied into  the branch of sir elkanha armitage some where  and I am seeking the same sort of infomation what you call the real armitage/armytage line as yes we are very tied in to the royal familys as we was the family that helpped made england what it is looking thru the latin side of thing as templars  yes we was heance why no information of us like every other noble family as we invovled around a lot of corruption including mu branch storys of a stolen birthright aka the braonancy and our right to the coat of arm

It depends on whether the name of mill buildings were called Velvet Mill(s) or some groups of mill building called something else that made velvet cloth. As already has been said the Armitage family or families had their fingers in many industrial concerns in Huddersfield and locations in Yorkshire.
