1861 and 1871 census HUGHES family
« on: Wednesday 10 May 06 21:24 BST (UK) »
Hello

I'm trying to find the parents of William Hughes.

His father was Edward Hughes

He married Ann Noakes in 1874 at Stoke St.Milborough and gave his place of residence as Burwarton Shrops and his age as 22, so would make his dob  c1852

On the 1881 age 30 place of birth Bishops Castle Shrops
 "          1891       40                "     Weston???          "
 "          1901       50                "     Wistanstow         "

So if anyone could find this family before his marriage, I would be very grateful as I just cannot find any trace of them

Thanks very much. I been very impressed with all the help I've received in the past, so fingers crossed.

Regards

Beryla

Hello Pete

Thanks for that swift reply. No, I'm afraid I don't have anything else at the moment, and of course with names like William and Edward it doesn't make things easier does it. Anyway I'll keep plodding on  and thanks for keeping a look out for me.

Not much help I'm afraid but Weston could be Westhope which isn't far from Wistanstow?
Wellington/Dawley areas - Attwood, Podmore, Wall
Sheffield - Oxspring
Machester - Clarkson
London - Whiffen/in
Leics. - Wass

Hi Beryl

Your William seems to have a different place of birth for each census which makes him difficult to pinpoint.

I have found these two Williams in the 1871 census who could be a chance.  The first one's place of birth is Burton which could also be Burwarton???  What do you think?

1871/William Hughes unm 20 Burton Farm Servant
Bucknell

1871/William Hughes unm 19 Kinnerley Farm Servant
Gt Ness Shropshire

In 1861, harder to find William living with a father Edward and if he is a servant, again difficult to say which one is yours.

This family in 1851 is near to the area that William was born.

Edward Hughes H 45 Montgomeryshire Wales Ag Lab
Ann Hughes Wife 35 Clunbury
Harriet Hughes dau 8 Wistanstow
Martha Hughes dau 6 Stokesay
Ann Hughes dau 2 Hopesay
William Hughes son Infant Stokesay
Stoke and Newton Shropshire H0107/1982 F636 p12

1861, a possible but William is a bit younger

Edward Hughes H 36 Clun Ag Lab
Sarah Hughes Wife 37 Hayton
George Hughes son 12 Ashford
James Hughes son 10 Ashford
William Hughes son 8 Ashford
Ashford Carbonell, Ashford Bowdler RG9/1837 F7 p 7

Hello Cazay,

Many thanks for all that searching.. very impressive.

The Burton and Burwarton seem a good possibility don't they. I don't think he was 100% sure where he was born, although a lot of these places are very close to each other aren't they.. I've been studying the map of Shrops.!!

As for the earlier census I'm just not sure which to favour at the moment. They chose such unusual  names didn't they.

What do you suggest for my next move?

Any suggestions very welcome

Hello Joburg

Thank you very much for your help and your results. Yes that could be my William Hughes couldn't it. As ages  aren't always a guarantee are they.
I wish I knew more about his brothers and sisters and favoured first names, but that's all part of the game isn't it.

What do YOU suggest as my next move?

Anyway thanks again

Regards

Beryla
