Hi,

I think that the "H" stands for Herbert or Hubert. We believe that he would be married to an Amy, by the 1901 census.

This looks like the marriage then ,indicating that he was still in the area in 1896

Marriage

Harry Herbert (or Hubert) NEWEY

Amy Elizabeth WARD

Warwick  Vol 6d  Page 1103

Sep quarter 1896

Do you know his occupation - there is a Herbert b Warwickshire in Islington in 1901, who is a photographer.

Hi,

I don't really know much about Harry Newey, as it's an Amy Ward that we are connected to.

I'll start at the beginning. We have a Poyntz Ward, who appears to have a daughter of Amy Ward. Thinking that this might be her marriage (as above in your reply). We where wondering who and where, Harry Newey might be residing with in the 1901 census and if they had any children. If they had of had children, we were wondering if any of the children had been given a first or middle name of Poyntz or Stewart/Stuart, especially these names being our Amy's Father's names and being fairly unusual.

It may have been a long shot, but thought that this may have been a way to tell us for certain, if it was our Amy Ward who had actually married the Harry Newey.

Hope that you can help.

OK I am with you now!  :)

I saw that Tanja found Poyntz earlier for you (great names in your family, btw!!)

You could try going through the BMDs for children born NEWEY with mother's maiden name WARD.  This info was included after Sept q 1911, so there is a chance they were still having children then.  Or other NEWEY children in the right area.

Will give it some more thought - have to go out now.

Hi,

The Poyntz Ward that Tanja found for me, is our family member.

Would love to know where the Poyntz name came from, as it would appear to be quite unusual, and often was spelled differently, eg Points, Pointz, Poytns.

Was just hoping that this unusual name had been given to the next generation, of this family.

Out of curiosity I loooked and this is where the name is found in 1881:

http://www.spatial-literacy.org/UCLnames/Surnames.aspx

(Type in the surname & select 1881)

You will see that its origins seem to be in West Wales!

Have you located Amy's family in 1901 to see whether she is living with/ near them, despite her marriage (or possible marriage)?

It is much more difficult to trace family members forward in time & you might have to take a risk on the marriage certificate.  There aren't any likely births including the name Poyntz in freebmd.

I think it would be worth establishing whether Amy did in fact marry and to whom before worrying unduly about the Poyntz connection - what do you think?

She is married to Harry in 1901, living in Kenilworth, but they don't have any children. He's a bricklayer's labourer.
