LOST IN 1851 CENSUS
« on: Tuesday 09 May 06 03:54 BST (UK) »
I have lost a 3xGreat Grandfathers who should be in the 1851 Liverpool Census.
George LEATHER born 1846, Toxteth Park.  Parents Thomas & Ann. Leather (nee CROWTHER), family John, Sarah A, Robert.
I have looked for George with grandparents named CROWTHER in Todmorden or LEATHER in Barton Upon Irwell without luck, and I have done a general counties search and still can't find him.
He is in the 1861 Census aged 15 years living with his parents & occupation Assistant Marine Store.
Anyone any ideas where to look now?          Sammiboy

Hi,

I have found a George Leather aged 6 described as a visitor with a family in Worsley named Bealey which is close to Barton Upon Irwell.

Ref 107/2217 folio 344 page 64.

If this is of interest and you require details let me know

Regards

John

Hi John
Thank you for finding that for me. It sounds the right person, but the name Bealey is unknown, maybe I will find a whole new branch of the tree.
I will be able to follow this up at the Library I work at.
Cheers.   Sammiboy

Hi - I have just picked up this post.  The Leather Family History Society shows George Leather b. December quarter 1845 in Liverpool, which would include Toxteth Park, son of Thomas Leather and Ann Crowther.  There is not a great deal of informaiton about this family.  Thomas is the son of Richard Leather and Leah Walton of Eccles, Lancashire.  Thomas was a marine store dealer.  George is listed as having married twice - to Mary Ellen, born c. 1845 and to Fanny, married September quarter 1868.  He had 6 children with his first wife and three with his second.  We have names for these but only a few birth dates.  Now that so much information is available on-line, details could be filled in but perhaps you have all this information already.
