My great grandfather was called John Gilmour Whyte, and I believe his mother;s maiden name was Gilmour.
His son, my grandfather was born in 1875, in Helensburgh. I am researching this family now, although I am new at the game! The Scottish side of my family have always had a connection with Ayrshire.
Hope this is of interest.
