Could anyone please lookup JANE PASHBY fro me in these censuses please? I should be able to find her on the Mormons on-line 1881 census, but she doesn't show!

Here's what I know anyway ...

Born in Levisham in 1823 to William and Elizabeth 'Betsey' Pashby (nee Leadlay)

1841 census: living in Levisham (HO107/1260 Folio: 30 Page: 5)
1851 census: living at no.1 Aislaby with brother William (HO107/2373 Folio: 69?)
1861 census: living at The Hall, Levisham with brother Leadlay (RG9/3645 Folio: 17 Page: 3)
1871 census: visiting brother Leadlay in Levisham (RG10/4844 Folio: 17 Page: 5)
1881 census: Where is she living, and with whom?[/i]
1891 census: Where is she living, and with whom?[/i]
1901 census: Where is she living, and with whom?[/i]

Possibly died as a spinster (www.freebmd.rootsweb.com)

Roger - what are the death details that you have found - that link doesn't work. If this death is in Scarborough there is a married Jane Pashby in Scarborough on 1881,1891 and 1901 about the same age.

Ignore the 'death' bit as I was only p***ing in the dark with that one, because BMD don't specify whether it's a married name or not with the death cases, do they?

Here's the death I was thinking of though ...

Jane Pashby Mar quarter 1903 Scarborough aged 81 Vol 9d page 233

The age is correct, but as I said, it's not clear whether she is a spinster or is married.

As she was BORN Jane Pashby, it is unlikely that the 'married' one that you mention in 1881, 1891, 1901 would be her, yes?

It seems that a lot of my ancestors spent a lot of time boarding or lodging with siblings, so it's sensible to presume that she might be lodging with another family member - but I haven't found out yet.

I have no indication that she has married after 1871, as she will be at least 48 by then, but I suppose that she could have done!

It also seems to be that they all have the same flippin' names and similar birth years as well

Yes, I'd agree! Lots of Janes, Henrys, Sarahs, Williams and Marys ... but there's only one Erasmus!!!!!!
