Chamberlain - oshawa completed
« on: Saturday 06 May 06 23:55 BST (UK) »
Hi

Am trying to find out  any information on an

Edwin Chamberlain brn abt 1887, Whitehall Eng and
Kate Cissy Chamberlain brn abt 1885 in Kings Walden, Herts

They were married in Luton, london in 1906

they then emmigrated to Canada soon after...am not sure which port (possibly Liverpool or Southampton) or even which ship they left on.   Edwin died in Oshawa in 1912 and kate returned to the uk and came back to Liverpool..

I can't find where they lived either..is Oshawa very big?

If any one could shed any light

Thanks
K

Hello again :),

The only marriage I can find with those names is,

CHAMBERLAIN Edwin Dec Q Hitchin Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire v.3a p.1217, on same page as Kate Cissie HOLTON.

Right year, wrong place :-\

Kate C HOUGHTON          D  S    6   Scholar               "  "  Kings Walden
Rebecah M A HOUGHTON  D  S    5     "  "                  "  "     "  "

Kate        "  "     D  S  16    "  "        "  "          Kings Walden

I can also see births of Clara Ward B HOUGHTON and Rebecca Mary Allen HOUGHTON in Hitchin & marriages of Clara Ward B HOLTON & Rebecca Mary A HOLTON in Luton, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, which may help prove the above  :)

Learning as I go  :), I didn't realise Luton was in Bedfordshire, my apologies to all who live there :)

I hope this look promising

Hi K,

They are in the 1911 census.  If you go to www.automatedgenealogy.com you will be able to see the original form.

Looks like they came to Canada in 1910.  They are living in Oshawa and Edwin is a factory worker.

Hi Karen,

Here's list to the passenger lists on microfilm.  They could have come in through Quebec or Nova Scotia.  They went to Nova Scotia in the winter months and Quebec when the St. Lawrence River was no longer frozen.
