Hello

My mother's maiden name was Letitia Waring (born 1910, died 2008).  I remember her saying she was named after a relative - an aunt, perhaps.  She told a wonderful ghost story about the house in which she was born, in Fareham, Hampshire.  She had very fond memories both of Lee on Solent, and of Marchwood, where she and her six brothers and sisters grew up.  She was very proud of being Irish, but totally disagreed with the prejudice many of her relatives exhibited towards Catholics, as did her mother, Frances (nee Bussell) who came from Dalkey, near Dublin.  She married my father, Cyril Saxon (1898-1983), who was from Newport, Wales, in 1947.

Does anyone know the names of letitia warings and william greens children? Some of my ancestors came from around loughenisland. my gg grandfather was francis greene who married jane keown . They had sons james , thomas and francis. The name waring appears as a middle or first name of there children and the first name latitia appears once as does the first name william . I am wondering if there is a connection. Thomas married sarah mcilroy and francis married annie keith. WILLIAM GREENE

Hi all 'Waring Decendants',

I have no connection with this family / name, but I thought I'd let anyone out there interested in the Rev. Holt Waring of this recent discovery I made.

I recently came across this drawing and it appears to be by the Rev. Holt Waring, who was I understand a founder member of todays 'Orange Lodge'.

I came across a pen & ink drawing entitled  'The Washerwoman' and signed WR and dated 1790. Along its bottom (under the frame' ) it states "By Holt Waring 1790"

From the small research I've done, there's a magnificent drawing done by the RE. Holt Waring of Captain Cooks Funeral in St. Pauls Cathedral, which is owned by the British Maritime Museum in Greenwich, which you can look up on the internet. The National Library in Dublin also has a drawing of the Custom House attributed to Holt Waring. Other than these I can find no mention of him as an artist. Indeed, the drawing I have here , although very good, would probably not be considered a 'masterpiece, nevertheless, I think its a unique piece.

I accordingly donated it to 'Libraries Northern Ireland' and they intend putting it on permanent display in the 'Irish & Local History Library in Armagh.

Tom
