What a co-incidence, my nephews is actually called John Thomas. His brother is Richard guess his short form nickname. D**k.

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and I have to say I have been in stitches reading this!! ;D

I am actually connected to the family of Howgego's (but only through marriage thank god!)

I used to go to school with a couple of girls who have hilarious names.  One was Faye King and the worst thing was she had problems with her legs so nobody ever believed her!!  Sorry if you're reading this Faye  :-\

The other was Ruth Tyler and yes, you guessed it, her dad was a roof tiler!!!!!!

Oh dear, oh dear, how did I miss this thread when it started :D

I have my own tale of names, mods and deletions...and its scarey...

I spend a bit of time on another board, where things do not run as smoothly as they do here, A very big thumbs up to RootsChat.

After a very time consuming search I found the 1851 census for one of my ancestors. His widowed mother was head of house.
Full of joy I proudly annouced this in...the other place.

The message was blocked. A word that could cause offence, naughty naughty, big smack of the knuckles. Go and iron your hands!

Pardon? All I put was...

Fanny Bartlett, head of house.....

Well, that's what it said on the form and that's what I put down...
so I had to change it to the propper name and thus put up a false transcription...........

I also knew a girl called Iris Tew  and a friend Aunt named her daughter Penelope Victoria noot such a good idea as her surname was Plumb
