Paul, what I lovingly call 'the other side' or 'in another place' is another Family Trees Messageboard run by a rather famous broadcasting company. It's good. It's very, very good, and the people are brilliant, but it is flawed. Mods either leap in with both feet and and make mistakes or sit on their hands when people are screaming for help. You can't talk to them, and you are very much on your own. You don't know how lucky you are with RootsChat.
I started searching over there, it was the first messageboard I had ever been on. Luckily one of them had a 'dual passport' (came over here as well,) and told me about this site. I'm so glad they did.
Just to show you how bad things can get, someone was censored once for talking about the Johns in her family tree. You can guess what they were talking about, and you can guess what the mods thought... ;D  ;D  ;D

This subject is hilarious. I used to work in schools and during my time came across the following,
Pearl White, Orson Carte, Dye Blewe, Lily White, Justin Toon, Annette Kirton, Mike Cousin, Shaun and Sean ( pronounced Seen by mother) Connery twins. Francis Maybee ( known as Fanny), William Shakespeare,
Ivor Hampton, Sandy Seaman. Dickie Fallis.
I worked with a woman called Belinda Olive Gartside she had her initials on her briefcase BOG. A local owl sanctuary had it's van printed with the initials of the named sactuary it read BOBBARS, and finally of those I can remember in the schools, Elton Flute that desperately wanted to change his name because he was being bullied. When he was asked what he would like his name to be he said 'Andy Flute' after his Grandad. How I did not fall about laughing I will never know. This was over thirty years ago and I still find it funny today.

I worked with a teacher colleague called Ian Bates.

When we were being all modern and allowing the students to call us by our first names, Ian insisted on the more formal Mister.

The students changed Mister to Master and had lots of laughs with his name.

Do you think any of the children with the appalling names ever sue their parents for cruelty.
