eliza doe born approx 1816 (25 in 1841 census) help required please

Looking to find any information or guidance for this person please I have an Eliza Doe aged 25 with a son John Doe aged 1 in the 1841 censusshe was at a workhouse HO107 328 06 31 p12 in this census.  I have who I believe to be the son in 1871 in great dunmow essex rg10 1794 30 p14 and he puts place of birth as being Thaxted Essex.  Ideally what I am hoping to achieve her is the find them in 1851 or 1861.  Also how can I find more detail in Eliza Doe as i believe they rounded up the ages for the 1841 census.  Any help greatly appreciated because basically im stuck.

Hi Janet,

Did you realise there are two John Doe in the 1841 Census, one at Gt Dunmow who was in the workhouse and one at Finchingfield who has several siblings. The only one I can find in 1851 and 1861 is the son of Eli and Sarah Doe at Finchingfield. 1851 Census HO107/1785/6/4, 1861 Census RG9/1113/7/7.

Hi Janet

I think the Eliza that you are searching for info on is my great great grandmother.

My great grandfather Frederick Doe was born to an Eliza Doe in Dunmow Union workhouse in 1854, I have a copy of his birth certificate and the fathers name was left blank. I also have a copy of the birth certificate of John Doe son of the Eliza that you are seeking (born 1840 in Thaxted workhouse), his father's name is also left blank.

In the 1861 census for Dunmow (RG 9 1117 26 p13) I found a John and a Frederick Dow living with a family named Goody, I think that there is a strong possibility that these are our two Doe boys as their ages (John 20 and Frederick 8 are about right).

Just to correct one point.  Ages were usually rounded down in 1841  - not up.
