Hi,
Welcome to Rootschat.
Do you know the names of James' parents as they will be on the 1901 census? If not you will need to get his birth certificate which will give his father's name and his mother's maiden name.

Thanks for previous help - I am now trying to find details of the parents of James Lingson - born around 1823 his father was James - he was a hatter - he married Margaret Coxon in 1845 at St Mary's Stockport her father was also James - the Coxons were from Ireland
As usual all help appreciated

Sorry I'm getting confused Margatret was James Coxon's daughter not James Longson's
I must be getting tired
My 3xGrandfather James would not appear in the 1841 census as he had joined the army at just 18
Regards Jim
