Dear Tracey,
Glad to hear from you, and thank you for the information.
Maude was the daughter of John Nicholas and Margaret nee Emmett.
J.N. was born 2/11/1847, was registered as Thomas, but the name was later changed to John Nicholas. J.N. and Margaret married 24/6/1872. J.N. died 4/7/1888 at Harrogate, and Margaret died 18/10/1890.
Maude seemed to be with an uncle on the 1891 census, but in 1901 was with her grandmother Frances. I have not been able to find any more on her after that, she must have been a bit wealthy, as it states she was living on her own means.
I had been very fortunate, many years ago, to have been sent a bundle of papers that had been deposited at the Northumberland Family History Society. I have a wonderful friend [never met him, but he has been so wonderful in what he has found], was offered to read a bundle of papers there, his name is Newell, and people by the name of Newell lived at Newbrough House or Lodgeat one stage, and I can only assume one of the new owners had a clean out, and gave the papers over. In the bundle was all the births mariages and deaths of the children on Thomas and Frances, it even had the Gretna Green marriage of Thomas and Frances.
