Hi

I have looked on both the 1841 and 1851 and there were no Betty Raw's in Lancashire.

In 1841 - there were 3 all born and living in Yorkshire. Birthyears 1756, 1826 and 1840
In 1851 - just one born and living in Yorkshire - 1844

Betty may have been a corruption of Elizabeth/Eliza and Peggy was often a corruption of Margaret

Hi again

Did you find her on the online version of the 1841 or on a name index as I have done a 5 year search either side of 1761 of all females surname Betty in Prestwich and definitely nothing that looks like Raw

dear carole, i found betty and george raw on the 1841 online ancestry site, interestingly it was their granddaughter sarah raw b about 1823 that i was looking for, found her living with the grimshaws birth given as 1816?, and then noticed at the rhs bottom was george and betty.
have looked at the enumeration districts for lancashire for 1851 as was going to trawl through the pages but only gives prestwich cum oldham whose only entry is the oldham workhouse . have looked at middleton and crumpsall but prestwich itself was a reasonable size so can't work out  why not listed.
the plot thickens, janet

Hi

George and Betty have been transcribed as RACO and Betty's birthyear is 1811 instead of 1761.  Age 80 has been read as age 30

What you may not have seen is that on the next page there is a Mary Raw aged 25 occ washerwoman with children John aged 6 and Jason aged 1 - all born in county

Definitely nothing on the 1851 but the census returns in the Manchester area were damaged by water during storage and Prestwich was one of the districts affected
