Opinion on 1851 census transcription please

Hi,

A fellow rootschat memeber has led me to an ancestor on a census return but I am unsure of the place of birth.  It is in Surrey.

Can I ask those who are able, to look at the census return and offer their opinions (assuming you have a good knowledge of Surrey towns/villages etc.).

The return is of the 1851 census H0107/1602 folio 237 page 22 (20 individuals at that address)
The individual is Richard Turner.

Where was he born?

(as a double whammy - what  does Thomas Turner's birthplace read like?).

Looks like West Grinstead and Falham to me...could "Falham" be "Fulham"?

Thomas is consistent with his birthplace.

Since I originally posted that I know that Richards father is also called Richard.

So, on the 1851 census return we have Richard Turner (Junior) as 21 and Thomas Turner in his forties.  I wonder why they were in service at the same house?  (Thomas has a double entry because he is also shown up the road with his wife and children).

Would anyone advise against presuming Thomas is his uncle who got him work at that address.  And if so, would Thomas's birthplace in West Grinstead lead me to Richards father's birth/baptism?  I know it's a long shot but  I want to progress.

Surely they are not unconnected people who happened to be working together in a village house!

If I were to check the baptism's for Thomas Turner at  West Grinstead @1807 where would I find the records?

West Grinstead parish records are not on the IGI or the BVRI - so West Sussex record office will be the record office that holds them. However having Googled there does appear to be an index up to 1812.

Turner is the 27th most popular surname in the country so there are plenty of Turners and you therefore have to expect to find unconnected Turners together on occasions. In family history I would always advise against words like 'assume' and 'presume'.

On the 1851 census there appears to be no Richard Turner born in Grinstead.

What birthplace does Richard junior give on later censuses?
