Hi Dotty and Jeannie

I've received some files today about a Ronald Cheetham and his family and I'm trying to work out if he is the same Roland/Ronald. He is listed several times between 1920s & 1930s on shipping files coming in with possible family members from China, Shanghai & Singapore.

The 'master' was Arthur, the wife was Ada, then a son called John and then 3 years younger Ronald. The earliest record is when he is 7 months old in 1923, then in 1926 when he is 3, then in 1932 when he is 8, then 1937 when he is 14.

I can send you the files if you like.

I'm wondering if he is the same Ronald, in which case who are Arthur and Ada? Are they his biological parents or are they other family members looking after him for parents back in England.

Nicola

Hello again,

I will fish it out when I get back.   I assume Roland is the same person who died in  your father's plane.

I am actually off to the Galapagos and have n't packed yet.   This family tree business fascinates me.

Best wishes,

Dotty C

Thanks Dotty. It was my uncle's plane, not my father. Lucky you with the holiday, the other person I think might be related to you went off to the Canaries yesterday, I must say you Cheetham Richards like to travel :-)

Do I have the right to know who is the possible other family member or not?

Regards,

Dotty C

Nicola and Dotty

Have a lovely time Dotty ! Speak to you soon.......

Nicola, I / we think that the Jewishness, came from Richard Cheethams mother.
Her name was Kerren Happuch Thelwell. Richard was Rolands grandfather. I have photographs of the whole family. which I will share if you would like

I have a photograph of great grandpa, and he looks quite jewish, if there is such a thing. All the family were photographers including Rolands father, Horace Victor Cheetham/ Richards

I can't wait to get home so that I can get on with more research !

Will let you know about Runnymede, when I have spoken to Jim (hubby)

Regards
Jeannie

Jean,

What on earth is Runnymede?   Is that where you went to look up stuff?  Cant wait to know.   I have just finished reading The Hare with the Amber Eyes.... it made me think of the Jewish side of the family and where they came from.   An amazing book by the way and you would love it Jean as it goes back on a family track.  Amazing.

Hoping to meet you this year also my far removed cousin.... your hubby.  I still have NOT  packed.

Love dotsxxx

The Runnymede Memorial lists all the fallen aircrew who have no known grave http://www.bomber-command.de/run.html and a general link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runnymede. You can also find individual entries on the Commonwealth Wargraves Commission website http://www.cwgc.org/. I've sent Jean a copy of Sgt Richards certificate, but you can download your own if you find the records for Ronald Geoffrey Richard

Its at the same place where the Magna Carta was signed in.

No, I got a lot of my information from The National Archives at Kew as well as the RAF and various other places

Hi everyone.
I've been speaking with Jeannie. I am a relative also and recognised some names on here ie Leslie and Marjorie who I used to visit with my parents back in the 1960/1970's.  My grandparents were Doris Lilian and Sidney Corke who lived in Bromborough, great grandparents were Clara Mangin and Richard (Dickie) Cheetham. I've found it fascinating how art and photography pop up so much as my daughter won a scholarship due to her being artistic, my mum was artistic and I love photography. Mum Valerie has passed away as has her sister Beryl. She had two brothers also who I assume have also died.  I remember her speaking about an Uncle Eddie (Edwin perhpas?) and an aunt Betty. I'm sure other names will come back to me. Anyway, nice to be here.
