Has any one heard of this company are they real or are they scams?  If you have heard of them and they are for real are there any pros or cons in joining?

Thanks

Hi

They are very very good. I would recommend it to anyone.

You pay I think its £9.00 a year and for that you get the following boards, trying to find, where you put anyone you seem to have lost and see if anyone else has any info.

You can go onto the tips board where you can give or receive advice on numerous genealogy queries.

And the biggest one is that if you put your tree on there, people can find matches with yours without seeing your actual tree (you can show them to an individual if you choose) and without knowing your email address get a message through to you ie was your bessie wright married to fred brown, and then you can swop info if you wish.

I believe that they have about 60,000.000 names on trees on the site but obviously that includes peoples trees where they haven't renewed their membership.

You can also view the 1901 census without further cost.

If you need any more info let me know as I have been a member for about 3 years.

Take care

So would I - I have only this week got another reply - and found one of my Dad's cousins.

This is now my second year of full membership and I cannot see any reason why I wouldn't subscribe next year (and the next, and the next......)

It's only probably of limited use if you merely register and post your tree - to really get the benefit you have to be able to contact other people which works out at less than £1 a month (and what else can you get for that - apart from RootsChat ;D)

Btw - the name changed to GenesReunited a while ago  ;)

GenesReunited (GR) has become essential.  It works best when people actually put their trees up there rather than just searching for contacts.  And paying one's subs is a small matter in light of what information and contacts it can provide.  I recently acted as go-between for a woman who had found a relative on there but couldn't contact her because she didn't have an account - I hope she's now joined.

Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.

The best info was concerning a branch  of my mohters family.

I had a name, but found he had been rector of Ashton UnderLyne, and his wife Grace Smith was a widow, previously  Grace Pickford. It is possible to trtace her way back using published pedigrees.

I have lots of distant cousins, people who remember shops run by my ancestors etc, well worth while

I have to agree with everyone else and definately recommend subscribing to it...I'm about to renew my membership for the 3rd time. I now have lots of distant cousins who I have found through the site and it's great to hear the stories about their families, especially about those who chose to leave Scotland and start a new life overseas.  :)
