William Pink 1828-?
« on: Tuesday 25 April 06 17:53 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find any info at all on my g.uncle William Pink b.1828 in Bishops Waltham/Hambledon. He was the eldest son of James Pink & on the 1841 census he was 12 & living with his family of 4 brothers & 1 sister in Chidden nr. Hambledon but I can't find him on any of the other census returns up to 1901. I can only assume he died sometime between 1841 & 1851 but again this is difficult to find as I'm not sure where he died & they don't seem to give age at death on the earlier BMD index. Another problem is of course that there are numerous William Pinks & unless I know the age at death I can't pin it down. Anyone any ideas?

Hambledon deaths would be recorded in Droxford registration district. William Pink could of course just as easily have emigrated, joined the army, served and died abroad, or even been transported, as dying before the 1851 census.

As he had an younger brother, William Robert b 1835, it might be that William 1828 had died by then, and the parents still wanted the name William.
William is in my tree - Can we exchange?

Hi Annie

William Pink baptised 23 Nov 1828 Bishops Waltham, parents James & Sarah Pink

Siblings would appear to be:

Sarah bapt 28 May 1826 Bishops Waltham
James bapt 25 Jul 1830 Hambledon
Thomas bapt 31 Mar 1833 Hambledon
Ann bapt 5 Oct 1834 Hambledon
George 21 Feb 1836 Hambledon
Joseph bapt 20 Jul 1837 Hambledon

There isn't another William Pink baptism to these parents  ???

William Pink son of James & Elizabeth Pink baptised in Droxford 5 Apr 1835

I don't see any burials in either place which would match any of the children.

Nell

Many thanks Nell

I managed to get that far as well. It's so annoying that someone can disappear as thoroughly as he seems to have done. Any other suggestions? I'm loathe to search through all the deaths for his name on the register, I'll be here till next Christmas!
I suppose he could have joined the armed forces as my direct descendant James his younger brother was in the marines & he must have got the idea from somewhere. Perhaps a visit to the National Archives is in order.
How about emigration, where would I look for that?

Anyway thanks for trying

Annie

You first have to eliminate the possibility that he died between 1841 and 1851 - which is the simpliest explanation.
