I tried that way when looking for a family who originated in Acton Burnell Shropshire. Found there where 2 lots of census pages however they were only 3 pages on each district so trawled through them all. No mention of any families of the name I was looking for.

I actually found another family I am researching by using one name and clicking on the name and then clicking onto  'see others in family'  and was able to confirm I had right one by the other family names.

So perhaps that could be one way of trying - just in case on census night they were outside their normal district.

This is really irritating. Ancestry must be aware of 'chatter' about the confusion and dispappointment this is causing subscribers -  I'm annoyed they haven't sent an email to everybody to explain what's happening about this census. They've ben sending them for some time now to ramp up the interest in 1841 so they should tell us what the problems are and what they're doing to resolve them. I know it's not been 'officially launched' but the reality is that it's there and it's not working properly.

Eventually, I found one of my families by searching on just country and surname but there are over seventeen thousand names, even on 'exact'. I trawled through the screens until I found one member of the family and then was able to see the other members.

All the details are transcribed correctly, Parish etc, but if I enter anything other than country and surname I get nothing.

The good news is that the quality, on this particular image, was excellent and far superior to one I'd seen previously of the same page.

I keep telling myself to leave it until things settle but then my usual impatience takes over and I have another go.

Marie.

I agree with all the disappointed. I was excited when it arrived but so far have found none of the families I have been searching for. I am not sure if the pages are not there or the search engine is so vague that I need to go through hundreds of entries. Will keep on trying and hoping.

Hmmm, I can't find any of my Wheeldons.  There were about 5 families all living on the same street in 1851 but not a trace in 1841.  Perhpas I will have to try and find the street.  :'(

Geoff

The only thing to work with my family was the surname plus England and I noticed you have what I thought was a fairly uncommon name in Moxham so put just that in plus England and up popped more than two huindred.

There's a Ann Moxham at Monkton Farleigh and if you then check 'view record' you can see other members of the family.

Cheers

Marie.

Hi Marie

May I suggest that you don't try to put anything in the Birthplace boxes, because the 1841 didn't record the actual birthplace.

For your Moxhams, try putting just the surname, and choose the county Wiltshire for the Residence. You'll get 87 Moxhams coming up.

To refine it further, you could put find out what Hundred your family were living in, and/or what parish (which might be different from the names of towns).

:)

I've had a go at just entering Wheeldon and a county but I still haven't got them.

I'm now attempting to find an address through the enumeration districts.

Hmmmm - this could take some time :-\

I've just found a Mary Grant transcribed as Henry.  You'd think they'd realise their mistake when her age was in the female column ::)

Is it the full 1841 census or will they be adding bits on?

I have looked through my records and found that some time ago a kind person did a look up for me and found the family that I am looking for living at Pooles Hole, Burbage - H0107/197/20 Folio 12A.

I seem to have tried every search combination that I can think of but can't seem to track my Wheeldons down.  I would like to look at the original and keep it for my records.

Heeelp - anyone got any ideas please?
