Hi Everyone,

I am trying to locate as much information as I can re: David Thornton Collins b 22/12/1880 and his family. His parents names where Edward Collins and Elizabeth Sarah Ward. I would be interested in any information on these people or parents or siblings etc. When they immigrated to Australia etc.

Hi Ambly,

They come from Queensland originally so am looking for anyone who may have Queensland BDM records to see if David Thonrton Collins has any siblings or if his parents were born in Queensland or elsewhere i.e. UK.

edward collins married elizabeth sarah ward 1863  reg no 000366
there are a number of children to these parents but there are a few that say elizabeth and som elizabeth sarah ward
but i could find only one marriage so it is hard to say if they are all siblings

Edward Collins was a convict and transported for stealing a donkey. John Collins was also convicted with him. they were transported on the ship: Nithsdale.  Edward first married another convict, Margaret Lane. Margaret died (Refer to Mother Collins Pinch) and he married Sarah Elizabeth Collins 16 Nov 1863 at St. Marks Church in Warwick, QLD.  Edward and Elizabeth had 4 children before the death of Margaret and before he and Sarah Married.

Elizabeth Sarah Ward Birth 24 Sep 1838 in  Southrepps, Norfolk, England   Death 9 Sep 1897 in  Allora, Queensland, Australia.
Edward Collins was Birth Abt 1812 in  Staffordshire, England   Death 23 Mar 1898 in  Allora, Queensland, Australia.

David Thornton Collins married Lucy Ann Slingsby Howard in 1902 they had the following children

Lucy Ann Collins 1902-1961
Stanley David Collins 1903-1986
Florence 'Florrie' May Isabel Collins 1905-1944
George Llewelyn Collins 1908-1970
Mary Ellen Collins 1910-1911
Gladys Clorine Daphne Collins 1911-1954
Henry Valentine Collins 1916-1916

I am aware that the family moved from Allora QLD to Lithgow NSW. Most of the above mentioned are buried in Lithgow Cemetery

Stanley David Collins married Alice May Harding ( My Great Grandmother ) in 1936 and together they had one child Patsy (My Grandmother) in the 1940's who is still living.

Alice May Collins (nee harding) died in 2002


Has anyone got any knowledge or records of a date of death for David Thornton Collins? It is believed that David did not move to Lithgow with his family choosing to run away with an Aboriginal woman and has been buried in a mass grave somewhere in QLD.
