I have put together quite a reasonable family tree of my PEGG side ancestry, going back to William PEGG born 1803. The family seem to have been located in the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire area, although they quite often intermarried with Irish families. The dominant family occupation seems to have been lace industry. Would be glad to share with anyone who thinks they may link into this. I suspect I have several cousins I do not know.

Hi Brian, my grandmother's best friend was a Pegg and they were in the Long Eaton area.

My grandfather George Pegg was born (and his mother consequently died) in Sandiacre which is not a million miles from Long Eaton. All I know about the (recent) family is what my mother has told me, there was some kind of row circa 1946 between grandfather and his bros, and touch was lost. I believe one brother (or half brother) played for Nottingham Forest, and another was an NCO in the Guards. Great, great grandfather William Abbott Pegg (b 1860) is, according to family legend, the man who took the first lace machine to the USA. Whether this is literally true, I know not.

, he put most of it down his neck in the form of whisky.

The first Pegg I have traced was a soldier, and some of his children were born in places like Bermuda. From the census info I have looked at, most of the family seem to have got themselves involved in lace working. I would guess that was fairly common in the Nottingham area at the time. It's very interesting, also I was surprised to find just how much Irish blood I had in me. I am quite new to this game, but I can see how people become absorbed as it is so fascinating, and there are so many different hares to be chased.

Do you have any Pegg From Salford?
My Grandfather was Victor Pegg but he was illigitimate and Pegg was his mothers name, he was born about 1896,I dont know his mothers first name only that she worked at the Black boy Hotel in Leicester at the time she became pregnant( im assuming she was sent away to Salford for the birth) The only other info I have is about his adopted family.

Sorry, can't help on that one.
The Pegg that came to Manchester was my grandfather and his descents are accounted for. The other Peggs (from my lot!) apparently remained in the Nottingham area.

Of course, there could be an earlier link...
