Hi Lynette
Thanks for the prompt reply. This is bit long winded I'm afraid but here goes.
I have traced my Russell line back abt 1774 in Airdire to a James Russell who married Maragret Rankin in 1799, Airdire. They had a son William b 1799, William is a very regular name in our family right through to my uncle. It is quite likely that our families would have known each other even if they were not related as my Grandfather John Russell was born at 11 Shanks Street in 1894. Shanks Street is a two streets away from Mack Street, so any children at that time would have been growing up and attending the same schools.
My Moffatt connection comes from Richard Moffatt b, 31.08.1834 New Monkland. Married Janet Stevenson Moffat 26.07.1854 Airdrie. Then came my Gt Grandmother on my Grandmothers side, Stevenson Muir Moffatt b, 22.04.1862.
Richards parents were James Moffatt b abt 1798 Glassford and Mary Douglas, b abt 1803 Cambusnethan. The children were.
John abt 1832
Richard 1834
Peter abt 1838
Robert abt 1841
William abt 1843
Catharine abt 1847
I will see if I can make the connection if their is one. I am in contact with some people in the USA who are also following similar lines and who go back to a common ancestor. One of them may have come across your William/Catharine MacKenzie.
