Newton Solney
« on: Thursday 20 April 06 10:45 BST (UK) »
I have just found that one of my Hollingsworth ancestors was a pauper in the 1871 census living in 'Poor Yard' at Newton Solney along with about  18 others but no warden or such. Is this another charitable housing for the poor, I have one lot like that in Ecclesfield, or a variation on the workhouse? Please can someone enlighten me.

Hi
I did read somewhere about poor yards, and i think it has something to do with living in the rooms above stables in livery yards, do check up on this, as im not 100% sure
