Flash, Derbyshire
« on: Wednesday 19 April 06 20:28 BST (UK) »
Wonder if anyone can tell me where the parish records for Flash in Derbyshire might be kept?  or who I could contact to obtain informaiton?  I have an ancestor who was born there in 1835 - John Moss (son of chap of same name) - who gave this as his birth place.  On later census records he was to be found at Wall Nook in Hartington Upper Quarter, but although I know where Hartington Upper Quarter was, I am not sure where Wall Nook was - could it be a specific address or an area?  Help!!

Having paid a visit to the tiny village of Flash this weekend in the driving rain, I found a few Moss family members in the overgrown graveyard so I feel I must be on the right track.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

John Moss is a common name in my family around the north eastern part of Staffordshire. Every man and his dog were called John Moss.  My ancestor John Moss born c1792 in Leek, Sts. married his cousin Mary Moss daughter of John Moss.

Hi Veebareeba, Think Flash might be under Staffordshire just but it does border Derbyshire and Cheshire, popular with smugglers in centuries gone by for escaping from the police in Staffordshire and also where the term Flash money comes from. The parish records will be at Staffordshire Record Office in Stafford and the Record Office at Lichfield definitley I think.

I have a gt gt gt grandmother Sarah Slack (b1805) in Flash she married James Moss in 1829 I think they had seven children the eldest being Thomas Moss who was also born in Flash in 1830 - I wondered if any of this was familiar to anyone else ?
